Also called Indian Paintbrush,  this is a hemiparasite meaning it can photosynthesize while also obtaining nutrients from a host plant, like Side Oats Grama. Being a biennial, it will produce a basal rosette the first year and flower the second. It does well in medium soils, will reach about 2' in height when flowering in May-June, and does best in full to partial sun.
